Eastspring creates alternatives team - appoints two senior executives in Singapore

SINGAPORE (10 October 2017) - Eastspring Investments (“Eastspring”), the US$170 billion Asian asset management arm of Prudential plc, announced today the creation of a new alternatives investment team.

To lead this new team, Nadir Maruf has been appointed Chief Investment Officer, Alternatives. In addition, Duncan Black has joined Eastspring as Investment Director. Both of these newly created roles are based in Singapore.

According to Virginie Maisonneuve, Chief Investment Officer at Eastspring, “The creation of this new team and these two senior appointments are part of our continued commitment to building our capabilities to provide compelling investment opportunities to clients.

“With our Asian heritage and our existing strengths in infrastructure and private equity, we are well-placed to tap into the regional growth potential for alternative investments,” said Ms Maisonneuve.

“Given the global shortfall in infrastructure funding, together with the region’s economic growth profile and demographic shifts, there is a clear opportunity for successful infrastructure, private equity and private debt investments which potentially create alpha for institutional clients seeking a strong, stable investment partner,” Ms Maisonneuve said.

Mr Maruf, who will report to Ms Maisonneuve, will be responsible for the management and investment performance of Eastspring’s alternative and infrastructure offerings.

With more than 20 years of alternative investments experience, Mr Maruf joins Eastspring from Daestrum Capital where he was Partner and Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Mr Maruf worked at Deutsche Asset Management where he was responsible for Alternatives and Infrastructure in Asia Pacific.

Commenting on this appointment, Ms Maisonneuve said, “Nadir’s extensive international experience, which includes infrastructure investment and asset management, private equity and expertise across operations and finance, makes him an ideal candidate to lead our Alternatives team.”

Mr Black joins Eastspring from Daestrum Capital where he was Partner and Chief Financial Officer. He previously held senior infrastructure roles at Deutsche Asset Management, Atlantis Resources, Lyon Group, Asia Infrastructure Fund and CLP Holdings.
